Chicago FUE Hair Transplant

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the latest and most advanced method of harvesting donor hair for a hair transplant. For FUE, an instrument is utilized to make a small, circular incision into the scalp around a follicular unit, which separates it from the tissue around it. The unit will then be extracted from the scalp, leaving a small hole. This will be repeated until enough hair has been harvested for the procedure.

For FUE, the whole donor area will need to be shaved. The follicular units will be removed using a .8mm to 1mm punch. Once all of the donor hair has been harvested, the hair loss physician will create the recipient sites and will place the grafts using the proper angle and direction.

A FUE hair transplant is different from FUT (follicular unit transplantation) because with FUE, the follicular units are removed one at a time right from the scalp, instead of being removed in a thin strip. The follicular units will then be transplanted into the recipient sites where they will be able to start growing like the rest of the hair. The recipient sites are created the same way for both FUE and FUT. The two methods differ in how the donor area will look and how the grafts are removed from the scalp.

Within 7-10 days, the donor wounds will completely heal and will not be noticeable. Follicular Unit Extraction is an excellent option for someone who does not want a linear scar or who would like to be able to wear their hair short.
