Why Do I Need a Hair Loss Professional?

Posted on: September 14th, 2015 by hairrestoration

Most men and women will suffer from hair loss at some point in their lives.  Some causes of hair loss may just be temporary and hair growth will eventually resume, but there are hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from hair loss that is progressive and will eventually render them completely bald.  There are many different treatments available to those afflicted with hair loss, but many are only a temporary solution.

If you are suffering from any of the following, you should contact a hair loss professional:

  • You are noticing a gradual thinning or balding of your hair and want to know your options for treatment
  • You have sudden hair loss
  • You see hair shedding in large amounts after you brush it
  • Your hair is becoming thinner and is falling out
  • You think a medication is causing your hair loss

Hair loss professionals are dedicated to understanding and treating hair loss.  Although you may be able to discuss your hair loss with your general practitioner, they are not going to have the knowledge or expertise of a hair restoration expert.  General practitioners will refer patients to specialists who will have the most knowledge for specific afflictions, and hair loss is no different.

The treatment options that are available for your hair loss are completely dependent on what is causing your hair loss and what stage of hair loss you are at.  A hair restoration expert has the necessary medical training to take a thorough medical history of the patient and determine what is causing the hair loss.  They will then be able to customize a treatment plan and let you know what the best solutions for your hair loss are.

There are certain doctors who add in hair restoration to their already lengthy line of services, but when you are looking for someone to help you with your hair loss, you are going to want someone who devotes their entire practice to it.  Only then will you find someone who has the most experience and the most knowledge about hair loss solutions.

You should not be afraid to ask questions find out how much experience the doctor has with hair restoration procedures.  Hair restoration is a big decision and you should make sure that you are working with the most qualified hair loss physician who makes sure to stay apprised of the latest and most innovative options for treatment.

Your treatment options will depend on your stage of hair loss.  For more details about our hair loss solutions, all you need to do is reach out to the Chicago ARTAS Hair Restoration Specialists and schedule a free consultation!  Please call us 312-806-2203.

Benefits of a Hair Transplant Surgery

Posted on: September 9th, 2015 by hairrestoration

There are many people who look for a permanent solution for their hair loss and look into having a hair transplant.  The cost of a hair transplant may seem high to some people, but you have to look at how a hair transplant can save you money in the long-run and what all of the benefits of the surgery are.

Those who suffer from hair loss try to come up with ways to postpone or disguise the hair loss.  Money is often thrown at wigs, toupees, hair thickening shampoos/serums, hats and topical solutions.  There are both over-the-counter and prescription topical solutions, both of which need to be taken on a regular basis or else the hair loss will continue to progress.  These temporary solutions are costly and are not going to correct the hair loss.  Over a long period of time, the costs of all of the temporary solutions are going to exceed what the cost of a hair transplant is.

A hair transplant is the only way to permanently correct your hair loss and eliminate the stress of trying to hide it.  Hair loss can result in a lack of self-confidence and can make you look older than you are.   Hair restoration can restore your youthful appearance and make you feel good about yourself.

Some people are worried because they believe that a hair transplant surgery is not a safe process.  Medical experts will assure you that hair transplants are a completely safe and natural procedure in which no special chemicals or medications are utilized.  Out of all of the hair growth methods, hair transplant surgeries are the most natural.  In addition to being a completely safe method to restore your hair, the results are incredibly natural-looking.

Worrying about your hair can take up a great deal of your time, but with a hair transplant, you are able to put that all behind you.  You no longer need to concern yourself about your receding hair line or bald spots and figure out new ways to hide them.  You do not need to wear a hat on the weekends and position yourself a certain way in photos so nobody will notice that you are balding.  You completely eliminate all of those concerns since you will have a full head of hair after the surgery.

It is a sad but real truth that those who are balding are often talked about or laughed at.  People who are balding may find themselves to be the topic of jokes from their colleagues or friends and this is incredibly hurtful and can make you feel older than you are.  Hair transplants take away that embarrassment because nobody can laugh at a beautiful, full head of hair.

The final benefit of a hair transplant is that you get hair that is very manageable.  The newly transplanted hair will be just like your naturally grown hair and does not require any special shampoos or other chemicals in order to care for it.

Hair transplants are the only permanent solution for hair loss and those who decide to have the procedure immediately discover that it was well worth the cost.  For more details about our hair loss solutions, all you need to do is reach out to the Chicago ARTAS Hair Restoration Specialist and schedule a free consultation!  Please call us 312-806-2203.

Why do Men Lose Their Hair?

Posted on: September 9th, 2015 by hairrestoration

Most people spend time thinking about their hair, but nobody spends more time thinking about it than those who are experiencing hair loss.  Some people think that the only reason men lose their hair is because of genetics, but there are actually a great number of reasons why they can suffer from this affliction.  If you are suffering from hair loss, it is important to know what is causing it so you will better understand how it can be treated.

Certain autoimmune diseases can cause hair loss.  When your immune system attacks your hair follicles or other important tissues for hair growth, it can cause a few different kinds of hair loss.  A permanent type of hair loss that can occur is called cicatricial alopecia and telogen effluvium is hair loss that occurs when the growth cycle of your hair is disrupted.   There are treatment options for this type of hair loss and often, steroid injections will be recommended.  Rogaine may also be an option, but you should first consult with your hair loss physician.

The thyroid can play a part in hair loss for some men and the thyroid is a small gland that sits right under your voice box.  It helps to regulate your metabolism by releasing different hormones.  Hypothyroidism is when there are is an underproduction of certain hormones and this can cause a man to experience patchy hair loss that is called alopecia areata.  Hypothyroidism can be caused by an autoimmune disease, birth abnormality or a surgery that involves removing the thyroid.

There are certain nutrient deficiencies that can contribute to hair loss and this can be the result of a dramatic weight loss, crash dieting, malnutrition or some genetic or biological defect.  The nutrient that most commonly contributes to hair loss is iron and people who are low in iron can have iron-deficiency anemia, which is a condition when your body does not have enough red blood cells.  Hair loss can also come from not having enough protein in your diet or not having enough vitamin B.  Changes in your diet may help this type of hair loss or a supplement may be recommended.

Physical stress and emotional stress can hurt your body in many different ways and may cause you to experience some hair loss as well.  When you are experiencing severe stress, your body is usually sent into a state of shock and your body gets overloaded with different hormones and metabolites.  This can cause telogen effluvium, which is the type of shedding that can also come from an autoimmune disease.  Most people’s hair growth will resume once the stress has been alleviated.

The type of hair loss that is most common and will not get better on its own is male pattern baldness (also referred to as androgenetic alopecia).  This is a progressive condition in which over time the hair follicles start to shrink.  Those suffering from male pattern baldness may want to consult a hair loss physician in order to determine what their hair loss solutions are.  The options for treatment will depend on how severe the hair loss is and what stage of hair loss you are at.

Why Do Women Experience Hair Loss?

Posted on: September 9th, 2015 by hairrestoration

Although hair loss is more common in men than women, thinning hair and hair loss does happen for women and it is just as upsetting.  There are many reasons why women experience hair loss, which range from vitamin deficiencies to physical and emotional stress.  For most cases, there are different treatment options for hair loss, depending on what is causing it.

Physical stress is a cause of hair loss, and any type of physical trauma, (a severe illness, accident, surgery), can cause you to experience temporary hair loss.  This type of hair loss is called telogen effluvium.  For most people, the hair loss will become noticeable three to six months after the trauma, but the hair will start growing back as your body starts to heal.

Pregnancy is considered a sub-set of physical stress and can cause women to have hair loss also. Hair loss that is related to pregnancy will usually be seen after the baby is born.  When you are pregnant, your hormone levels change and your hair does not fall out at its usual rate.  After you give birth, your hormone levels start to change again and all of that hair that did not fall out during pregnancy will start to fall out, and for some women, it will seem like a lot of hair is falling out.  Once the hormones in the body regulate again, the hair loss will stop.

Vitamins can also be a cause of hair loss and if there is too much vitamin a in your diet, you may suffer from hair loss. Hair should start to grow back normally once the vitamin a level has been leveled out.  On the other hand, if you are deficient in vitamin b, you may experience hair loss.  Women who do not have enough vitamin b in their diet can suffer from hair loss, but with dietary changes, this can easily be fixed.

Over styling your hair can be damaging and can cause your hair growth to suffer.  If you use excessive heat from blow dryers, curling irons and straighteners on a regular basis, it can cause your hair to become dry and brittle and prone to breakage.  The same goes for using harsh chemicals on your hair.  Take a look at the ingredients in your hair care products and try to choose products that are gentler on your hair.

Women who experience a dramatic weight loss may notice that their hair is thinning.  When you lose a lot of weight, it may be because of dietary changes and you may not be getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals anymore.  Usually six months after the weight loss your hair will start to grow back again.

Emotional stress has a lot of negative effects on your health, and hair loss may just be another one of them.  Whether you are suffering a loss, having problems with family or friends or worrying about money, you may experience hair loss.  Just like with physical stress, the hair loss will eventually stop, most likely once you are able to reduce the stress in your life.

Female-pattern hair loss, called androgenic or androgenetic alopecia, is the female version of male pattern baldness.  Your treatment options will depend on your stage of hair loss.  For more details about our hair loss solutions, all you need to do is reach out to the Chicago ARTAS Hair Restoration Specialist and schedule a free consultation!  Please call us 312-806-2203.
